UNDER/CONSTRUCTION
is a brand by Eliran Ashraf', a textile designer graduated from the Shenkar High College in Israel
(2013) after specialized studies in knitting & printing technologies.
Currently lives and creates in Geneva, Switzerland and manufacturing in Tel
Aviv, Israel.
In my Final project by same name I experimented with the creation
of textiles and clothing pieces combing influences from two distinctively worlds
of inspiration. The first, is the world of Yemeni Jewish textiles and the
second is the modern urban world ruled by modern architecture.
These worlds presumably existing as two parallel dimensions and
the research conducted expressed for me architecture’s way of
influencing the way we dress.
I founded this brand as a straight continuation to the project it’s
references and my designs are expressing tribal influences in everyday pieces
and charged with multiple urban angles such as grid lines, construction sites,
cranes and building skeletons. In an aim to express the multi cultural mix we
are living in.
Choosing to embark a brand with t-shirts was a simple choice.
Simple because for many it’s their favorite garderobe items and
because it’s a challenging medium in which you are forced to express
your design message in a simplified, minimalistic way.
This
collection, T/SHIRT 15-1 was designed in Geneva & made in Tel Aviv and
contains models in grey, white, blue & black colors- modernist era most evident
colors with abstract-
architecture prints designed by me.
The
Black t’s contain different compositions from a
variety of textiles all designed by me, created i multiple- combined
techniques as screen printing, painting, digital printing & handmade embroidery.
Each fabric created is charged with mixed
elements from both worlds of inspiration, Yemeni vs urban.
Each of these black “collage” t shirts
is unique & un identical and were created with an attempt to
follow and express the Yemeni way of fabric
recycling into magnificent standout textiles, but also exists as a homage to
urban street cultures like graffiti, street art & street artists like Jean
Michel Basquiat.
Each T/SHIRT in the collection is signed with
a handmade Yemeni embroidered stitched found in the right collar.
My vision as a designer and founder of this
new growing brand (more clothing pieces and textiles are yet to come!) is to
create everyday pieces with attention to detail and quality. My aim is to offer
multiple materials, use of new technologies combined with handmade features. I
see it not just as essential part in my
creative process, but also from a strong belief that in a world that creates “fast” fashion
there’s a growing place for those who wish to offer and consume unique pieces
that contain exceptional work in a diversity that goes from simple items to
most complexed.
The collection is being sold in boutiques in
Geneva and soon will available for online purchase in the brand’s new
website that is currently on the works.
The Look Book pictures were photographed in
locations in Tel Aviv & Geneva by photographers Elad David & Alex
Pittet. It offers an abstract interpretation to themes like construction plans
& architecture elements.

אלירן אשרף (1984). יליד ישראל, גר בז׳נבה ומייצר את עבודותיו בתל אביב. אלירן בוגר המחלקה לעיצוב טקסטיל בשנקר בהתמחויות סריגה והדפסה.
בפרויקט הגמר שלו " UNDER/CONSTRUCTION" התנסה ביצירת טקסטילים ומערכות לבוש, המשלבים מקורות השראה מעולם הטקסטיל התימני-יהודי ומהעולם האורבני, בו שולטת הארכיטקטורה המודרנית.
בעבודותיו השונות ובעיצובים השונים שהוא מייצר, מראה אלירן כיצד עולמות אלו, אשר לכאורה מתקיימים כשני יסודות מקבילים ונפרדים, מבטאים למעשה את השפעת האדריכלות והמבנים החברתיים על מערכות לבוש שונות.
הרקע לפתיחת המותג בשם זה בא בהמשך ישיר לפרויקט הגמר. כמעצב, מנסה אלירן לבטא את ההשפעה השבטית בפריטי אופנה לבישים ולהנכיח בהם השראה אורבנית, אשר לקוחה מתהליך הבנייה המודרני, כגון : קווי אורך ורוחב, אתרי בנייה, פיגומים, שלדי בניינים וכולי, וזאת, מתוך תקווה כנה ליצור אמירה על העירוב התרבותי הכה מעניין, שאנו חיים בו היום.
הקולקציה הנוכחית, 1 -T/SHIRT 15 עוצבה בז׳נבה ויוצרה בתל אביב. היא כוללת חולצות טי מ 100% כותנה בצבעי אפור, לבן, כחול ושחור, צבעים המאפיינים יותר מכל את צבעי ה״עולם המודרני״.
על גבי החולצות מודפסים מבנים ארכיטקטוניים אבסטרקטיים, שעיצב אלירן בעצמו. בחזית חולצות הטי השחורות מונחות קומפוזיציות שונות של בדים שונים שיצר בטכניקות שונות, לרוב משולבות; כהדפסה ידנית, ציור וצביעה ידניים, הדפסה דיגיטלית ורקמה ידנית.
כל בד מנסה לבטא את השילוב שבין אלמנטים, המגיעים מהעולם התימני ובין אלמנטים מזה המודרני-אורבני. לעיתים החיבור הוא נעים ומשולב ולעיתים הוא כולל מתח מכוון. כל חולצת 'קולאז'״ שחורה הנה ייחודית ועל גביה קומפוזיציות בדים אשר נוצרו בהשראת הדרך בה ״מוחזרו״ בדים שונים לכדי אלמנטים מרהיבים בעולם הטקסטיל של יהדות תימן. במקביל, ניתן להסתכל על חולצות הקולאז׳ כהומאז׳ לתרבות האורבנית, לגרפיטי לאמנות רחוב וליוצר חשוב בתוכה- האמן ז׳אן מישל בסקיאט.

החזון של אלירן כמעצב ובעל מותג חדש הוא ליצור פריטים ובדים באיכות גבוהה, המיועדים לשימוש יום יומי. להציע מגוון של חומרים, שימוש בטכנולוגיה חדשנית ותשומת לב לעבודה ידנית.
כיום הקולקציה נמכרת בבוטיקים בז׳נבה ובחנות ה- Etsy של אלירן, וכן בקרוב יושק אתר חדש ובלעדי למותג, ושבו יהיה ניתן לרכוש את הפריטים אונליין
